2025 Library Challenges

There is so much more to a library than simply reading! Check out our special 2025 Library Challenges. These challenges are available both digitally on Beanstack or via a paper tracker available at the Info Desk. 

25 Ways to Use Your Library Challenge:

This challenge is designed to show you everything the library has to offer. Our library is so much more than books and we invite you to explore all that our library offers. Join the challenge on Beanstack or pick up a paper tracker to view the complete list of challenges. The challenge will run from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

  1. walk through the Butterfly Garden. Sit and enjoy the flowers, shade, and water feature.
  2. Enjoy crafting using our online video classes on CreativeBug.
  3. Join the Seed Library. Take home packets of seeds to grow.
  4. Enjoy the library grounds as you stroll and read the Storywalk.
  5. Play the outdoor instruments in the Boy Scout Garden.
  6. Watch a movie on our streaming app, Kanopy.
  7. Reserve a book or movie online and pick it up at the library.
  8. Donate and/or purchase a book from the Friends of the Library (FOL) Book Nook.
  9. Enjoy some of the library’s unique features. Pick up a list at the front desk.(Light fixture in the foyer, military pavers and statue, art of the month hallway, staff art display, quilts, mother/child statue…)
  10. Attend one program. Choose from cooking, art, languages, lectures…
  11. Enjoy our 25th Anniversary Silver Garden.
  12. Read the History of the Library Wall in the foyer.
  13. Check out a movie, TV Series, or documentary.
  14. Check out an audio kit (adult or children’s).
  15. Check out a Fitness Kit.
  16. Check out material from the Library of Things.
  17. Write down the first name of 5 people that work at the library. Turn in at the front desk.
  18. Find a book series. Write down the name of the series, author, and how many books are in the series. Turn in at the front desk.
  19. As a member of the Seed Library, return seeds from the plants you have grown to add to the Seed Library collection.
  20. Use the drive-up to pick up your reserves and/or drop off your returns.
  21. Write down what flags are flying on our flag pole. Turn in at the front desk.
  22. Join the Summer Library Program.

Adults:

  1. Read a magazine or newspaper from the library collection.
  2. Attend a Makerspace class.
  3. Read an ebook or audiobook from one of our electronic resources (Libby, CloudLibrary, Boundless, Hoopla).
  4. Work on our community jigsaw puzzle in the Reading Room. 
  5. Join a book club or reading challenge.
  6. Use a study room.
  7. Use the Business Center (public computers, scanning, faxing, printing). 

Children:

  1. Use one of our fun kids apps (Tumblebooks, Natational Geographic Kids, Miss Humblebee’s Academy).
  2. Participate in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. 
  3. Attend a Pop-up Library at Bulverde Community Park. 
  4. Check out a book from our 2024-2025 Bluebonnet Collection.
  5. Check out a cookbook from the J 641.5 section. Cook something yummy for your family. 
25 Ways to Use the MFPL Makerspace

Have you been curious about the Makerspace but don’t know where to start? This challenge will show you a wide range of things you can accomplish in the Makerspace. Join the challenge on Beanstack or pick up a paper tracker to view the complete list of challenges. The challenge will run from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

Complete your Makerspace projects by attending select classes and library events or by registering for Open Maker Hours. You can also become DIY certified to reserve equipment by appointment. Supplies for classes are provided—Patrons may purchase limited available materials from the Makerspace during Open Maker Hours and DIY appointments but will otherwise be responsible for bringing their own materials or ensuring desired supplies are available.
