Borrow More Than Books!

The Mammen Family Public Library now lends more than just books and DVDs—we offer tools, gadgets, and more! The Library of Things is a collection of practical items you can check out with your library card, helping you save money, reduce waste, and try new experiences.

Much of the MFPL Makerspace equipment was funded through generous grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Texas State Library and Archives (TSLAC).

How does it work?

  1. Browse the collection online or at the Library. Library of Things items cannot be reserved; they are first come first serve at the library.
  2. Check out at the Info Desk. All Library of Things items can be checked out for two weeks. They are not eligible for renewal.
  3. Use it, enjoy it, and return it like any library item. 

Who can use the Library of Things?

    Any patron who has had a MFPL card for at least 60 days with no outstanding fines or fees is eliglible to check out items from the Library of Things. Only patrons residing in a free approved zipcode or those that have paid $50 for an out of district card are eligible to use the Library of Things. TexShare and Student Passport card holders do not qualify for use of Library of Things items.

    Youth: We welcome youth under 18 to explore the Library of Things but a parent or guardian who is attached to the minor must be present to complete any and all forms required. The signing adult also accepts all responibility for items checked out by the minor.

    With a broad collection there is sure to be something for everyone in the Library of Things!

    Liability forms must be completed  prior to borrowing any Library of Things items. Patrons must complete a Library of Things Lending Agreemtnt once before they check out thier first Library of Things item. Patrons are welcome to view this form below and are welcome to complete it at home or at the library.

    Item specific borrowing agreements must be completed prior to each checkout and are available at the library.
